Evaluation and Developmental Center (EDC)
The Evaluation and Developmental Center is a Rehabilitation Institute direct service vocational rehabilitation program assisting the state of Illinois Division of Rehabilitation Services with vocational and transitional services for their customers that helps lead to successful employment. The Evaluation and Developmental Center also serves as a training site for the Rehabilitation Institute's degree programs including the Rehabilitation Services bachelor's program, Rehabilitation Counseling, and Rehabilitation Administration and Services master's programs and Rehabilitation Counseling and Administration doctoral program.
Project 12 Ways
Project 12-Ways is part of the Behavior Analysis & Therapy Program and offers a range of services to families in 11 Southern Illinois counties. Its primary focus is to teach children and their parents the skills necessary to get along without abuse and neglect. The guiding philosophy of Project 12-Ways is that family problems can be eased by eliminating stress-producing factors such as unemployment and by teaching parents effective child-rearing skills. It is funded through grants from the Illinois Dept. of Family and Children’s Services and the Illinois Department of Human Services.
Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders
The Center for Autism Spectrum Disorders serves as a site for teaching and interdisciplinary training of graduate students who will be the future professionals in their disciplines of behavior analysis, speech language pathology, and other related professions. The Center also is the home for research and evaluation related to creating and disseminating knowledge about autism spectrum disorders. Finally, the Center is the regional focal point in Southern Illinois for service to children with autism spectrum disorders, their families, community service providers, and the public.
Region 5 Technical Assistance and Continuing Education Program
The Technical Assistance and Continuing Education Program (TACE) provides performance-based continuing education services to rehabilitation organizations and personnel who serve persons with disabilities in a six state region. The program is designed to improve the job skills, provide new knowledge, and update the training of rehabilitation professionals through an integrated series of educational services that emphasize the skills necessary to a worker's effective performance.
TACE conducts continuing education workshops, seminars, conferences, and training sessions; collects and disseminates up-to-date information; and provides technical assistance and consultation to state agencies as well as public and private facilities, agencies, and organizations. The Technical Assistance and Continuing Education program is funded through a grant from the Rehabilitation Services Administration.
Employability Development Project
The Employability Development Project is housed in the Southern Illinois Correctional Center and provides vocational rehabilitation training and support to correctional system inmates nearing release from the correctional system. Services include job development and placement, work skills training and vocational counseling. In addition, the project operates a GED program for inmates who do not have a high school diploma.
The project is funded through the Illinois Department of Human Services and the Carbondale Community High School District.
The Clinical Center
The SIUC Clinical Center serves as a service delivery site and training site for students enrolled in the master’s program in Communication Disorders and Sciences. Services include audiology screening, speech screening and assessment and speech therapy.
